Spatial Analysis of Population Growth and its Impact on Housing Stock in Aden Governorate During the Period 1994-2014 "A Study in Urban Geography"

Abstract

    Population growth in Aden Governorate is one of the main factors affecting urban expansion, as the increasing number of people leads to an increased demand for housing, and with the continuation of this growth, the governorate expands urbanly, according to the demand for housing stock. To meet the needs of population growth, urban land use areas, which are characterized by land uses within the Aden Governorate, including residential use (housing stock), are competitively allocated per unit of built and unbuilt area in the residential neighborhoods of the governorate's districts. Due to the presence of forces of attraction and repulsion, especially in the heart of urban centers and their edges, this in turn leads to a phenomenon of functional replacement between the urban functions of the city, most notably the residential function, which is displaced from its location due to the intense competition between those functions and its weakness compared to both the commercial and industrial functions in the governorate.

   Therefore, this research aims to study the spatial analysis of population growth and its impact on the housing stock in Aden Governorate during the period 1994-2014 AD. In order to achieve this goal, the study of the topic included two main axes, interspersed with sub-axes to discuss aspects of the topic. The first axis dealt with the reality of population growth and the development of its spatial trends in Aden Governorate during the study period, while the second axis dealt with a geo-statistical analysis of the aspects of the relationship between population size and housing stock patterns in Aden Governorate for the period under study.
