This study examined the importance of media and the role it plays within society. It then addressed the concept of political schadenfreude and its contemporary dimensions, including its linguistic and terminological definitions, as well as its manifestations in modern political discourse and practice. The study also highlighted how Islamic law, through its flexibility and comprehensiveness, accommodates and provides remedies for various moral and psychological shortcomings.
Given that political schadenfreude is a relatively recent term that has not been previously defined in a systematic manner, the study sought to establish a clear conceptualization of it. Furthermore, it explored the principal Islamic legal and ethical guidelines governing schadenfreude, drawing on evidence from the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the opinions of scholars. It also demonstrated how Islam promotes brotherhood, harmony, affection, and unity, while seeking to eliminate all causes of hostility, hatred, division, and social fragmentation.
The study concluded with a discussion on balancing political realities with Islamic ethical guidelines, addressing the effects of political schadenfreude on both individuals and society, as well as outlining the relevant legal principles and practical guidelines for responsible political discourse.
