نتائج الحفرية الإنقاذية في موقع اللُبَيْب بمديرية موديه في محافظة أبين بالجمهورية اليمنية

Abstract

This study presents a concise report on the results of a salvage excavation conducted at the site of al-Lubayb, one of the most prominent archaeological locations in Abyan Governorate. The site lies within the historical region of Dathina, a cultural landscape in Yemen that has been continuously inhabited since antiquity and is attested in inscriptions as early as the seventh century BCE. The excavation, the first of its kind in the area, was carried out in January–February 2006 with the aim of documenting and rescuing the remaining features of the site following decades of uncontrolled destruction.

Excavation work focused on “Area A,” where the foundations of a square building composed of two rooms were uncovered. Architectural evidence suggests a possible ritual function for the structure, which appears to have been destroyed at an unknown date, perhaps after the third century CE. The results of this excavation are encouraging and support the recommendation for continued systematic investigations, as the site offers promising scientific indicators that may help fill significant gaps in the history of ancient Yemen, particularly in the context of studying the Dathina region.
